MND fundraiser success

Motor-Neurone--078

My mum has MND, and as a musician I was keen to do something to do some fundraising… so last night was the Young at Heart MND Fundraiser, at the O2 ABC2 in Glasgow.

So I put together a bill of – The McCluskey Brothers (of The Bluebells), Martin Stephenson, The Moonshiners, Lorna Brooks, myself, Nicole Cameron, and our host Bruce Morton.

In fact, you might have seen some of the press that we got in the past few weeks?

Around 250 people came along, and we had a cracking night. Lovely atmosphere, fantastic music, all in aid of raising money to fight MND in Scotland.

Dave and Ken McCluskey in great form

Highlight of the night for me had to be everyone on stage at the end of the night singing together, and the impromptu walkabout around the venue – including a double bass, which is rather impressive, frankly. (you can see a wee snippet of that at the end of the video posted at the very bottom of the page) There’s a fair bit of work goes into this kind of thing. Apart from the alchemy that is getting the right bill together, you’ve got to get a date that’s suitable for all involved, find a venue, deal with ticketing allocations and keep an eye on sales, organise press & publicity, monitor publicity to ensure it’s been effective and amend your plans accordingly, find out what technical equipment the artists need, make sure that you can provide it, risk assess the event, monitor the event on the night, get everyone on & off stage on time, liaise with venue staff, buy rider, keep an eye on costs, settle with the venue…..Just like any fundraising event in fact, there’s plenty to organise. Huge thanks then to everyone who bought tickets & came along, to Direct Distribution for all their help with publicity, to all the staff at the O2 ABC Glasgow (especially the bar staff, you were ace), to all the artists for being such good fun and giving us their time, to everyone who donated, to Iain McLean for doing the photos. Thank you – we’re still totting up the final figures but it looks like (including donations on the night) that over £2000 was raised – which is absolutely amazing. Thank you all so much!

Here’s a video taster of what the evening was all about…
